Panic No Panic

Weird day so far. Had a good run this morning, even though it was cold (25 above). My iPod didn’t crash or freak out at all for the first time in a long time, though it did skip one song. I tried a new way of lacing up my running shoes, and it helped a LOT. My ankles didn’t ache and I was able to do the whole route without walking at all. So hopefully I’ve got that problem licked. I felt really good and energized after the run, which surprised me since I almost turned back at the beginning because the sidewalks were still somewhat icy from yesterday’s snow. But I saw a few other joggers slogging on, so I gave it a try. I’m glad I did.
I came into work and had a bit of a panic when I got an automated e-mail saying the end date for my current project was 4/15. I kinda knew that was the official line, but I had been given every indication possible that I was on at least through the end of the year. I was not looking forward to trying to scramble and find a new project by April, especially since there don’t seem to be any around. But I talked to my boss about it and he said it was a bookkeeping error and is having them change it to the end of the year. Whew! Dodged that bullet.
Music-wise, I’m still trying to catch up on re-listening of 2003 releases so I can vote in the annual best-of poll. And I’m even trying to listen to some new 2003 CDs for the first time. There was a sale at Media Play on Monday – I went in there to buy a small storage rack for my growing SACD/DVD-A collection, and ended up buying some new CDs also. I bought Liz Phair’s self-titled album (on sale) even though most people I trust hated it. It’s not totally bad, but it’s not really Liz Phair either. I also got Logic Will Break Your Heart by The Stills, and like what little I’ve heard of it so far. I want to listen to the whole thing before voting. And there’s Cinerama Holiday from Cinerama, which is a compilation, and the new self-titled one from Phantom Planet (2004 release), both of which are ineligible for the poll in my book. So I’m not too worried about getting those listened to. Transatlanticism by Death Cab For Cutie is growing on me, especially after listening to the SACD (which is sadly not multichannel).
I noticed there were some new releases on eMusic, including some Stan Ridgway albums. I don’t remember which ones I already have, so I’ll have to check that when I get home. They’ve also got the new Poster Children disc, so I’m kind of sorry I bought the CD. Although the CD has some interesting extras, like a video and a full-length “commentary track”, so I guess it was worth it, and I can save my eMusic MP3 download allotment for something else.
Lunchtime is ovah. Latre.
