Drowning in Tunes

Dish Network just added the Sirius Satellite Music stations to the programming package I have, at no extra cost. This is very cool, as I have been wondering for awhile about Sirius (and its competitor, XM) and wondered if it was something I wanted for my car. It’s weird that I can now get it on my TV/home stereo, but not in my car. I’m grooving on it. The sound quality and the absence of any commercials alone makes it a better “radio” listening experience. Anyway, I’ve been listening almost exclusively to the “Left of Center” channel (6026 on Dish), which features “College-Indie Rock”. It’s like listening to my iPod, aside from the fact that they also play a lot of artists I’ve never heard (or heard of) before, some of which I will be checking out. The only downside is that they do repeat tunes if you listen often enough. But I think I can deal with that for now.
Just what I need – to be exposed to more music that I may end up buying…
Latre.

Have you heard of Music Plasma? It’s sort of a relational database of artists that shows you who kinda sounds like who. If you click on the little speaker icon, you get to hear samples of each artist. I found a bunch I’d never heard of. Of course, who’s like who and who’s more influential than who are religious issues (and I disagree pretty violently with a lot of their relations) but overall it’s a good place to cruise around for new tunes.
