Digital Rain

The first official trailer for the movie based on Frank Miller’s Sin City series of graphic novels has finally hit the net. The trailer makes it clear this is a direct adapation of the books, so it will be interesting to see how it plays with a mainstream audience. The cast list in the trailer is certainly impressive, and it doesn’t even list everyone. But it only gives hints about how much over-the-top violence there is in the stories. (Or how much nudity, for that matter. Red States beware!) I just hope it doesn’t come off to “normal” audiences as too campy, as this sort of noir often does these days. And black and white movies, even ones with splashes of color like this, don’t usually go over too well either in this day and age.
I’m not much of a Mickey Rourke fan, but he sure does look and act the part of Marv and appears to be a great casting choice. The burden falls on him, Bruce Willis, and Clive Owen to carry the movie, as they play the lead characters in the three SC stories that are adapted for this movie. (Four if you count the short story with Josh Hartnett that opens it.) I can’t wait for April – I hope it doesn’t disappoint. That rain sure does look good.
