Synchronicity: As soon as I write an entry about a Bed & Breakfast Inn in an urban area of Denver, the Denver Post goes ahead and publishes an article about Denver B&Bs. Among other things, it says that only 18% of B&Bs are in urban areas, and that the urban ones have mostly business travelers as customers. That makes sense. The owner of the B&B I mentioned is quoted at one point.

I’ve been spending a lot of time playing my new Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable) and am totally hooked on the puzzle game Lumines. It’s very Tetris-like – it involves arranging falling blocks so that they line up and disappear, and it’s totally addictive like Tetris was back in the day. This is the kind of game that could be played on any system, so it doesn’t really show off the PSP’s capabilities much. But it’s fun. The other games I bought are Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade (which is an action RPG) and Ridge Racer (a car racing game, obviously). Those show off the system more, as does the included UMD disc of the Spider-Man 2 movie, which looks fantastic on the PSP’s LCD screen – almost HD quality. Too bad I’m not really into watching movies that way. Maybe on a plane trip sometime…

Also, my PSP doesn’t seem to suffer from the dead pixel problem that many people are reporting, so I guess I lucked out there. I even downloaded the dead pixel checking-bitmaps and everything looks okay.

I also watched the Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs on DVD last night. I’m not going to give movies I watch on my home theater a Nod-O-Meter rating. I fall asleep way too easily watching movies in my comfy chair at home, especially after a few beers, and so my penchant for nodding off is not really reflective of how good the movie is. Although I did manage to stay awake for all of this one without taking a nap break in the middle like I frequently have to do. It’s a very taught little crime story that does not go on too long. It’s basically about two guys – one a cop infiltrating the mob, and one a mob guy infiltrating the cops – and about how their paths cross. Very interesting character study – there’s not a lot of action or gunplay. The always-appreciated Christopher Doyle helps out on cinematography, so that’s always a plus. Recommended – go out and rent it. The DVD was distributed by Miramax here in the states. The movie is supposedly being remade by Hollywood as a Brad Pitt vehicle, so be sure to see the original first.

Since it’s Easter, I feel I should say something. However, I’m sure that Johnny Hart said something applicable to the holiday in today’s B.C. comic strip, which I don’t really want to read.

Latre.
