Local Award Season

Our local alternative weekly Westword came out with its annual Best of Denver issue last week. A CD by one of the bands my brother-in-law Glen plays bass with, Wanker, got the award for Best Audio Alternative to a Handful of Vaseline. I wish the webpage showed the accompanying cartoon, which took up most of the page, as it was pretty tasteless and somewhat pornographic. Oh well.
Also, Judith Avers, who is a good friend of my sister Jo, got an award for Best Singer-Songwriter — Female. Hey, Sue & Joe, she’s got some CDs out but is not currently signed to a label…
On another subject, my favorite reality TV show, Project Greenlight, has definitely not suffered from its move from HBO to Bravo. This season is just as interesting as the first two, maybe more so. The director/contest winner, John Gulager (son of veteran character actor Clu Gulager) is extremely volatile. He’s trying to cast the movie using his family members in all the major roles, and that’s not flying too well with the rest of the crew and the studio. Much drama ensues. And good old Chris Moore has not lost his edge – he still speaks his mind and lets people know when they’re doing or saying something stupid. I love it.
