Snowy Day Rumination

Posted on | April 10, 2005 at 11:37 am | 7 Comments

Getting hammered with the ol’ late season blizzard today, with wind and lots of wet, heavy snow. Someone wanna come do my shoveling for me, so I don’t throw my back out again?

Hey, how come manufacturers of jeans don’t make odd-inch lengths? I can never find jeans that fit me. I need a length of 31 inches. 30 inches makes me look like I’m waiting for the ol’ flood, and 32 inches makes me look like an old man with pants up around my nipples. Aaaargh!

Latre.

Back when I was heavily into cycling, I started having to buy pants that were “relaxed fit”, and one size too small. This meant they fit my waist but also my overmuscled thighs.

I don’t have that problem any more – I married a good cook and exercise less these days. But perhaps this will suggest some similar lateral-thinking solution for you.

I also need a 31″ inseam, and what I do is buy pants online unhemmed and have them altered. Costs an extra $5 per pair, but it’s worth it to me.

Lands’ End sells hemmed jeans in one-inch increments (no extra charge, either).

What? You mean the “pants at chest height” look isn’t this season’s rave? I’ve been sadly misled…

Thanks for the suggestions, kids. I’m not real into purchasing clothes online (since you can’t… y’know.. try them on), but I may have to try a pair of the Lands’ End ones.

    Jeff, don’t forget your suspenders.

I got in trouble in third grade for pronouncing misled “miss-(schwa)ld”. My teacher was an old bat.

I thought “misled” was an odd word, the past tense of “to misle” (with a long i) until, I dunno, junior high or something… Ever since, I’ve practiced my misling whenever I can.
