What Would Picard Do?

Reading the Rocky Mountain News while eating breakfast is a very important part of my routine (especially during the past year or so). When I didn’t get my paper this morning, for the first time in a long time, I was really upset. I noticed that my new next door neighbors, who moved in last weekend, had one in their driveway. I was pretty sure that it was mine and was delivered there by mistake. But I had no way of knowing if they had also subscribed, and if so, if their subscription had started so soon. Strangely, most people in my neighborhood subscribe to the Denver Post instead of the RMN (I get the RMN because it has better comics and more local news), so when I see an RMN in a driveway, it’s pretty rare. I was stuck with a moral quandary – do I take the copy in their driveway? In the end, I decided not to. But I think it was because I was more afraid of getting caught and starting off on the wrong foot with my new neighbors (they were obviously at home) than out of some moral high ground. Though I do usually espouse the high ground. But this was my morning paper, dammit! So I called the RMN and had another one delivered (alas, not in time for breakfast). We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Will we both get a paper?
Today I listened to the new Al Stewart album, A Beach Full Of Shells. (No, not that Al Stewart.) Don’t laugh, I’m an Al fan from way back. Ah, the heady days of Past, Present & Future and Modern Times! Al is definitely getting softer in his old age, but can still rock out a little bit if the tune demands it. The thing that struck me most about the new album was that he was sounding a little Leonard Cohen-y to me (lyrically and musically, but not really vocally). This was most evident in the song Royal Courtship. I wonder if this is something that’s been there all along and I’ve just never noticed it, or if it’s a new thing. The album link on the record company website has some RealAudio sound samples of some of the songs, but unfortunately not that one. However, there’s a brief sample of it on the CD Universe page which I think does show the Cohen influence.
Latre.

Y’know, I had no idea what you meant by “not that Al Stewart” – then I clicked on the link, saw a somewhat familiar mustached face with an expression that reads something like “what the *hell* are you doing to that iguana?” and realized I hadn’t known Alan’s last name was Stewart. Not that I had any expectations what it might be – just, hey, ya learn something new every day.

Uh-oh, I’ve outed Alan. Sorry, Al. There’s just no privacy on the internets.
Is it “outed” or “outted”?

“outed”

Thanks, Jeff.
Update: This morning, I did get a paper, and it looks like my neighbor didn’t. So I think they really did misdeliver yesterday’s paper. Guess I should’ve snarfed it.

In order to avoid just this kind of confusion in the future, I’ll be releasing my new album under the name Walter Satan.

I believe you mean “Walter Satin”.
