A Long But Fun Day Downtown

Today was Team Builder day at work – the company bought my project team tickets to the afternoon Rockies game. I got up at the usual time and did my usual two mile run, breakfast, paper, shower, etc and then headed into work. Had to work for a few hours in the morning and then we hopped on the light rail and rode downtown. Had a free lunch at the Wynkoop, and the service was really bad. Yeah, we were a big party, but it still shouldn’t take over an hour after ordering to get the food. The place wasn’t even that crowded. This made us late to the game, and I knew there was trouble when the score was already 6-0 Pittsburgh by the time we got there. I had accidentally left my cap in the car, and our seats were in the sun, so I decided to buy another cap. Couldn’t bring myself to buy a Rockies one though, with that kind of performance, so I got a Cubs hat instead. The final score was 11-3 and the Rockies were never really in it. It was a short game, only about two and a half hours. It was pretty hot for the first half, but once the clouds came out, it was more comfortable.

When I called my nephew Jeremy (11) in the morning to wish him a happy birthday, he said that they were going to the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown for his birthday dinner (this is apart from the big family get-together dinner we are having on Saturday at my brother-in-law’s brother Troy’s house). They were even going to ride the light rail down there. Cool. So I decided to meet the rest of the family there, even though it wasn’t something I had originally planned on. Had some time to kill after the game though, especially since it was so short. So I had a beer with a couple of co-workers at Fad?? Irish Pub outside of Coors Field. Still had a little time to waste after that. So I called up my friends Seth and Ken, both of whom work downtown (for separate companies) and met them at the Rock Bottom Brewery for a quick drink. And I still managed to make it to the Spaghetti Factory before most of my family. I sat down in the waiting area next to my dad, who obviously did not recognize me with my baseball cap on. He got mad when I started asking him personal questions, until I finally took off my Cubs cap and got him to look at me and see who I was. Sheesh. That was worrisome. Now I suddenly see how Clark Kent can get away with that whole glasses thing.

Dinner was long but entertaining, and then we all headed back to the light rail. Got home about 9:30 and I’m totally exhausted. Plus I’ve been away from the Internet all day and I was getting the jitters. Bummer that I have to go back to a full day of work tomorrow and play catch-up. But that’s life in the adult world I sometimes inhabit.

Latre.

Joe & I are both disappointed in you for buying a Cubs cap. The Rockies may not suck forever! Show some loyalty to your home team!

Yeah, well, Joe & I are going to see the A’s vs. the Orioles on Tuesday, and I am not going to be wearing an Orioles cap!

But I bet you won’t be wearing an A’s cap either! Wouldn’t that be disrespectful to the Giants?

Actually, I will be wearing a Johns Hopkins cap. It’s an alumni event. Not that I’m into the whole alumni “thing,” but we did get two awesome seats at half-price. And I shall root for the A’s. I’m still a little mad at the Giants for trading Yorvit.
