When Was The Signal Divorced From The Sign?

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m having a really hard time trying to think of things to talk about this week. Actually, there are lots of things I want to talk about (stupid Broncos), but not right now. So here’s more trivial stuff.
Let’s see… I’m really enjoying the Maximo Park album, A Certain Trigger. It’s the old same 80s retro New Wave style guitar/keyboard BritPop thing that’s pretty popular right now. There’s something refreshingly minimalistic about it though. The hooks don’t immediately jump out at you, yet it all sounds catchy from the beginning, like you know it will burrow into your brain after another listen or two. Thanks, Sue and Joe.
The new TV season is starting up again, and I’m doing my best to not waste too much time 1) getting attached to shows I suspect won’t be around for long, and 2) watching shows out of obligation or hope/potential rather than enjoyment. Reality shows, aside from Amazing Race, have got to go. Though my older sister says that the first episode of Survivor this season was pretty good and I might not want to boycott it. I’m unsure what to think about the plethora of new alien invasion shows, but of course I’ll have to sample them, being the SF junkie that I am.
After Deadwood and Rome, I’m waiting for HBO to do an authentic, edgy period show about cavemen, called Cretaceous or something like that. (Don’t tell me if there were no humans during the Cretaceous period – I don’t care.) I’m thinking Mandy Patinkin would make a good leader of a tribe of proto-humans.
Finally, I’ve decided to become a Breatharian. Keep your earth matter away from my mouth! (I thought that this movement, which factored into tonight’s season finale of Starved, was a made-up one. But as usual, I was wrong. Unless the website is a hoax. But if it was a hoax, you’d think it would be… better designed.) Anyway, take that, Vegans! Posers.
Latre.

Or that guy at the bus stop the other day. Whew.
In other news: clowns on waterskis. Sorry – I drove through central Wisconsin this afternoon, which meant I drove near Wisconsin Dells, which meant I was assaulted by many billboards (small ones, at least) advertising Tommy Bartlett’s Water World, several of which billboards featured…well, you guess.
That, by the way, would make a good premise for a TV show. Only make it alien cavemen waterskiing clowns. And their sexy girlfriends.
