Transformations That Were Too Hard To Find

A quickie shout-out to my BÖC-loving peeps here. I got my hands on a copy of the Espers EP The Weed Tree, which I talked about in this entry. So far, I’ve only fully listened to their version of my all-time fave BÖC track Flaming Telepaths, but I have to say I love it. It’s 10 minutes long, the longest song on the album. It starts off all folksy and semi-acoustic, yet still being completely true to the original, including duplicating the keyboard and guitar solos. And then it totally freaks out for the extended ending with the full band and screechy guitars. Not to mention strings. Spectacular! I love it when a band covers a song I like and manages to stay faithful to it while still making it completely different and giving it a new twist.
And those weird lyrics – they sound even weirder when sung as a folksy female/male duet! They even get the words right!
From the sampling I’ve done of the rest of the EP (which is a good 36 minutes long, and so not really an EP, IMO), the whole thing sounds pretty good. Looks like I’m going to have to pick up their other album as well.
Latre.
