2007 In Review: The Beats

Let’s talk about the Dance Scene. I know, I know, we’ve avoided it in this forum long enough, but there’s no denying its power and the influence it has on each every one of us. I hardly have to tell you that “Dutch DJ/producer Tiesto and the return of house music were the highlights of the dance scene in 2007“. If it wasn’t for Tiesto and Guetta and Sinclar and Kaskade and Sanchez… well, who knows what would’ve happened to the scene in 2007? Probably the same thing that happened to country music! But that’s not the whole story. Where would we be without Fragma? Or Oxmia, for that matter? There’s a whole world of slammin’ beats out there and I just can’t stop moving moving moving moving, like Soterios Johnson.
The telling quote from the article: “Already familiar to existing dance fans, yet willing and able to pen songs in pop structure and length, these DJ/producers are spearheading a new movement that is already merging the old dance factions.” The dance factions have been divided for way too long, ever since the Great DJ MuscleCar Schism Of 2003. What we need is uniters, not dividers. And in the likes of the Ultra Records roster, that’s what we have. The fan base for house music is aging at an alarming rate, so anything that makes us feel young again is here to stay. Personally, I know that I’m slowing down, and so is the girlfriend, and I don’t know how long we’ll be able to keep up this every night club hopping and still be awake enough the next day to perform our duties at the DMV (not Club DMV, the Department of Motor Vehicles). But as long as the likes of David Guetta keep pumping out the beats, we won’t be able to resist that siren call. Here’s to even more fun in 2008!
So who was your favorite DJ in 2007?
Jogged Today: Nope, more snow on the ground from storms yesterday and overnight. And it was really cold.
Today’s Weight: 164.2 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: California Dreamin’ wrap from Safeway.
Pet Peeve of the Day: When someone slams into me at a rave and spills my smart drink.
Latre.

“Favorite DJ” – Dow Jones? Dear John? District Judge?
Or are we talking proper names – Derek Jeter? Davy Jones? Don Juan?
Oh wait – of course, DeskJet! I’m not so familiar with HP’s 2007 line since we mostly have Canons in this family, but I’ve heard the 4160 series can really cut a rug.

David Jones a/k/a Bowie! That’s what you’re getting at, right?

Actually, “David Jones” is a large department store in Australia – sometimes known as “DJ’s” – and we were clothes-shopping yesterday so it was in my head.
But I decided not to explain that, so I changed it to “Davy Jones”, as in the little guy from the Monkees. Even though that made it kind of a musical reference.
As for “Bowie”, do you mean the knife or the baseball commissioner?

I just had to write a bio about the Crystal Method, so it’s their simplistic, monotonous, yet oddly powerful music that gets my vote today.
