A Tall Order

My New Year’s resolutions:

  1. Sell my comic book collection.
  2. Eat less and exercise more.
  3. Keep in better touch with friends.
  4. House repairs and remodels, including replacing some appliances and finishing the basement.
  5. Rip all my CDs to the computer.
  6. Read more books and play more video games.
  7. Learn a new skill or technology at work.
  8. Take a trip to a beach with the gf.
  9. Avoid driving into things.

Actually, I’ll be happy/lucky if I accomplish any two of those…

Jogged Today: Nope.
Today’s Weight: 163.4 lbs
Lunch Yesterday: Reuben sandwich at Govnr’s Park.
Pet Peeve of the Day: My rental car, for the next three weeks at least, is a white Chevy Cobalt. After tooling around in a Prius, and in an Acura RSX before that, this is a like a toy car. It seems very plastic-y and wimpy and fragile. I don’t understand why people can call a Prius a “mangina” when there’s things like this on the road. And of course there’s none of the amenities, like power locks or windows. There is a CD player, but no iPod dock or satellite radio. But what can I expect to get when the insurance company is paying $16/day? Guess I’ll just have to live it with. I’m frightened about driving it on the snow and ice.

Latre.

If you’re talking about an ocean beach, there’s one 20 hours’ drive away from Denver – right at the end of I-10 at Santa Monica Pier. But what with parking and all, it’s probably easier to leave the car at home and just walk there.

Easiest of all, a few drinks or a mild concussion can make the shores of Sloan’s Lake close enough to satisfy…

Corrections: it’s a 16-hour drive straight through, and I forgot there’s plenty of parking in Vegas – that should save you some shoe leather.

Oh yeah, and when MY car was totaled, the insurance company paid $20/day. And that was 1996!

Well that’s because gas prices and rental car rates since then have gone d… damn!

For Resolution #8: Long Beach, Washington will be just the place.

I suggest St. John’s in the US Virgin Islands as a really beautiful beach. I think that you can even fly direct to St. Thomas and there are probably some pretty good deals to be had there. I suppose you could go hang out at the beach near Lakeside Amusement Park but I think those big old carp would probably eat you up.
