I Wanna Live In A Cinnimin World

Do you have a nemesis word? A relatively short word that you can just never spell correctly, no matter how many times you try? I do. I consider myself a pretty good speller, but there’s one simple word that always confounds me.

Good on ToastThat word is cinnamon. Every single damn time I type it, I have to spell-correct it. There is just something very anti-intuitive about the way it is spelled. I think it’s that “o” in the last syllable. (Incidentally, syllable is another word I can never seem to spell right.) That letter just does not seem to belong in the word. Although I have problems with the “a” as well. Too many vowels! Sometimes I can’t even get the right number of “n”s. Maybe the word just doesn’t sound right to me in general. It doesn’t have the right ring to it. It’s a weird word. But, y’know, cinnamon is a weird food, and devastation sometimes follows in the wake of its ingestion, especially if you have a problem with clogged arteries and spend a lot of time at Cinnabon. Still, life would not be worth living without it. My favorite application of the spice (is it a spice?) is to mix it with sugar and sprinkle it on a hot buttered piece of raisin bread. Is there anything yummier?

Anyway, you can see it’s not all fun and games here at FlasshePoint. Sometimes I get disgusted with myself and will omit the demon word cinnamon from a post even though it’s an important part of what I’m trying to write about. I just don’t want to have to deal with spell-checking it, no matter how easy Firefox makes it. It forces me confront the limitations of my intelligence and I don’t like that. Of course, it was far worse back in those old darker days before Firefox added on-the-fly spell-checking. Now I’m so used to those lovely red underlines I don’t know what I’d do without them. I’d hate to have to go back to using a dictionary old-school.

Dropouts r us. So, that’s my remedial spelling story. What’s yours?

Latre.

Bonus Question: Patterns! What’s missing from this entry? Hint: It’s two words.

Which. Who needs that first h? Never mind that it’s in who, what, when, where, and why so I should be used to it’s position after the W. Satellite and squirrel. And restaurant. Although I got them right the first time on this comment, with no help from the spell checker! Must have really been concentrating.

I often have trouble with restaurant (I hope I got it right this time since I’m going to be lazy and not check.)

One of my related peeves is words I can spell, but can’t ever seem to type right because there are two keys I end up typing out of order. Back when I used to use the code editor called “pmate” I couldn’t get myself to quit typing “pamte”. Finally I gave up and just made a macro to run the correct program when I typed the wrong name.

I’ve got a lot of those, but I can’t remember any of them right now.

Finally I gave up and just made a macro to run the correct program when I typed the wrong name.

I did that once too! But for the life I can’t remember what the program/utility was.

Brain cells 35a through 39g were killed off the other night while watching a campaign ad, and I think those memories were stored in the non-barren area.

    “Relevant” is my spelling demon.

And “think” “from” and “love” are my typo demons. Just today, I told someone I “lvoed” them, which made it sound like I did something salsa-related to them.

I usually lack the judgment to spell judgement correctly, when neither spelling gets flagged by spellcheckers..

Steve, I thought you of all people would figure out the pattern in my post. I’m disappointed. Here’s another hint: Music.

“desperate” which should be the same as “separate” but isn’t.

Wow, nobody’s getting my little puzzle.

    Here’s another hint:
Nothing to do with Neil Young, cinnamon (hey, I spelled it right!), or spelling. Think album titles. Also, there’s a clue in the picture.

    Still no takers?

Y’all have figured it out, haven’t you, and you’re messing with my mind?

Okay, one last clue. I can’t get any more explicit than this without just saying it.

The title of all albums by one particular band (active from the mid-80s to approx 2001) appears in the entry. Well, every album except one. And that one two-word album title is the name of a place. What are those two words?

I finally got it!! The Connells. http://www.onesimpleband.net/Discography.html

It was “one simple word” that finally tipped me off, though I guess it should’ve been “weird food and devastation.”

You should have made the photo w/the entry clickable so we could have seen a larger version since I’m guessing that’s a Connells CD booklet underneath the cinnamon shaker. I was distracted by “Eat This, Not That.”

Boylan Heights is the place that was not mentioned.

    Correct!

The CD in the picture is Boylan Heights. If I had made it larger, it
    would’ve been too obvious.

And note that the title track from Fun & Games showed up in my
jogging playlist a few days later, which was the big clue in the donuts post.

Congrats, Sue! I’ll decide on your prize later.

I’ve never even heard of the Connells, so I didn’t stand a chance.
